Sorry, this is kind of babbling-short answer is, I don't have opinions about this stuff because I am too ignorant to responsibly form an opinion, but conversely, I am very open to being taught about this stuff, and appreciate your thoughts on these topics.It appears our systems have detected the possible use of an automated program to visit. (Not just that more data could be transferred at a time but that the speed was better too.) But I don't know if that is actually true, and I don't know if using adapters would somehow screw that up. Based on something I read, I thought that, all other things being equal, a firewire connection would typically have less latency than a USB 2 connection. I don't have a technical computer background, so I am just trying to read widely and get advice about stuff like this.
I guess because I was worrying that there might "leakage" across the adapters? Here is a GS user with a MOTU product that is attached via a Thunderbolt-to-Firewire adapter. It's surely a matter of how you imagine these devices do what they do and my purpose for asking is to help me be more insightful as I teach people about computers, networking, and other stuff. I am rather curious about *why* you think there would be latency problems in this solution.

is this a bad idea? Will I run into nasty latency issues because of the adapter? Will I have problems with drivers for the MOTU on the new mac or issues with Logic 10.5?. I see that there are adapters for firewire 800 to thunderbolt 3 and so rather than buy a newer device (my MOTU was bought around 2008), I am thinking of just buying an adapter so I can keep using it with new computer. PS I tried to post this earlier but something went wrong on my computer. if I am understanding the specs there right. is this a bad idea? Will I run into nasty latency issues because of the adapter? And if so, how much if any of a downgrade in terms of latency will it be if I switch over to a 2.0 USB interface? I was sort of toying with getting the Arturia audiofuse 8pre, which is USB-C with USB 2.0 protocal. My old interface, a MOTU 8PRE Firewire 800 still works fine, and I still like it a lot. My music computer of many years has died, and I am getting a new Mac with Thunderbolt 3.
